Bronx Research Materials on Display in Walsh Library

By Tierney Gleason, Reference and Digital Humanities Librarian

The Reference department in Walsh Library kicked off the Fall semester with a display of research materials highlighting Bronx history and culture. On the tops of the shorter bookshelves in the Reference Area, you will find books on display along with signs pointing to digital items like e-books, maps, data resources, oral histories, videos, music, digitized archival content, and resources at local organizations.

Photos of selected display items including: books and web resources about the Bronx River; print books, e-books, and streaming videos about Latin jazz, salsa, and bachata music from the Bronx; e-books, a print book, and a link to search for digitized archival images about Yankee Stadium; a large 1969 city planning book with a link to connect to current data, statistics, and maps about Belmont, Bronx Community Board 6.

Covering a wide variety of Bronx history topics, we hope there is something that catches your attention. Items in the circulating collection on display are available for checkout, and QR codes are used on our signs to connect researchers to electronic resources.

Not sure how to use a QR code with a smartphone? Feel free to ask staff at the reference desk for help.

Open your phone’s camera and point the lens to a QR code. Click on the website address generated by the QR code highlighted in yellow to connect with online content.

Keep in mind that researchers do not need a smartphone or even have to be on the Rose Hill campus to connect with research materials featured in this exhibit. All of the materials are posted to our public Zotero library:

Finally, if you are in the mood for music, check out the Spotify playlist we put together of Bronx doo-wop, vocal harmony, and R&B groups using books and articles in Fordham’s library collection.
