Walsh25: Walsh Library Turns 25
By Hannah Herrlich, Emerging Technologies Librarian
This year marks a monumental milestone for the William D. Walsh Family Library, as it has been one quarter of a century since the building first opened its doors in the Fall of 1997. Throughout the past 25 years, Walsh has been an oasis for countless students as a space to study, learn, and gather with their peers. There is no better way to commemorate this historic birthday of our beloved building than by launching the library-wide campaign – Walsh25!
What to Expect?
Join us in honoring Walsh’s 25th “silver” anniversary through an array of celebrations planned throughout the Fall 2022 semester!
If you visited Walsh Library during the first week of classes, you might have noticed a shelf in the Atrium draped with bags, pens and stickers. Each of these Walsh25 swag items were free to grab and the intentional placement of the display next to the holds shelf might have inspired some users to carry their books out in a nifty new tote bag. Further distribution of Walsh25 material and apparel could vary throughout the semester, so be sure to continue to visit Walsh Library because you never know what could be handed out next.

Additionally, every Tuesday during the Walsh25 campaign will be #TriviaTuesday, where various trivia questions will be posted about Walsh Library. The first two users to answer correctly each week will win limited edition Walsh25 T-shirts! Yes, you read that correctly… Walsh25 T-shirts for FREE.
It’s no secret that Fordham Libraries has an extensive list of Research Guides that covers a diverse range of subjects. And joining this list shortly will be a Walsh25 Research Guide. Another blog post will be released soon once the Research Guide launches, but rest assured that the guide will feature building secrets and history, detailed charts and graphs about library usage, and special photographs of Walsh Library throughout the years.
Stop by the Exhibition Hall, located on the First Floor of Walsh, to find a specially curated collection about the building of Walsh Library and its grand debut in 1997. This archival exploration into the library’s foundations features periodicals, paintings, and blueprints dating back to the initial planning process for the new library. This collection will be exhibited through October and plans for a book display showcasing some of the best sellers from 1997 are in the works!
