Collection Spotlight: The Big Broadcast Jukebox
Until his passing in 2016, Rich Conaty hosted “The Big Broadcast” on WFUV radio for over four decades and more than 2,200 shows. Conaty curated jazz and pop from the 1920s-1930s, and his expertise and love of the music attracted a cult following.
Now, thanks to an anonymous donor and the help of many people across the university, the archive of “The Big Broadcast” is part of the Fordham University Libraries Digital Collections. Anyone, anywhere can hear hundreds of show recordings, with more shows being added to the collection over time.
In order to comply with federal copyright laws, the archive is presented in the form of a “jukebox” style player. Federal law restricts the ability to select individual programs in on-demand fashion, or to rewind or fast forward through content. You can start and pause the player on the current program. When that show is complete, the player will load the next program.
